On behalf of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf (USD) and the Theater of Mime and Gestures “Rainbow” we inform you about the forthcoming 5th European Deaf Arts and Culture Festival, which we are going to host and is well-known under the name "Salvia".
The 5th European Deaf Arts and Culture Festival will take place October 6-12, 2008 in the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv. The previous festivals were held in the following cities: 1997 - Brussels, BELGIUM
1999 - Moscow, RUSSIA 2003 - Munich, GERMANY 2006 - Helsinki, FINLAND
Festival "Salvia" during years of its existence has gained formidable popularity and certain prestige among the deaf people in Europe.
5 theatrical groups of Europe and 3 theaters of Ukraine will take part at the 5th European Deaf Arts and Culture Festival "Salvia".
The Festival has big cultural program: - opening ceremony (October 6, 2008);
- the Festival's contest performances of theatrical groups (October 7-11, 2008);
- the Festival's program off the contest (non-competitive), master-classes and workshops.
The Festival's performances will be shown on stages of cultural centers of the USD in different cities of Ukraine: - Kyiv, Cultural Centre of the USD - main contest program and the main stage;
- Chernihiv (130 km from Kyiv) - Cultural Centre of Chernihiv Organization of the USD
- Zhytomyr (120 km from Kyiv) - Cultural Centre of Zhytomyr Organization of the USD.
During the Festival's week participants and guests will know better: historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine's capital, which is celebrating 1526th anniversary since its foundation, well-known in the whole world spiritual monuments - Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and St. Sophia's Cathedral. They will better know the activity of Ukrainian Society of the Deaf, its subordinate organizations, enterprises and social conditions of life of the deaf people of Ukraine. The right of a theatrical group's participation in the festival will be decided by the Council of Experts, composed of professional specialists in deaf culture and arts of Ukraine. 5th European Deaf Arts and Culture Festival "Salvia" can be attended by fans and tourists from all corners of the world. The Ukrainian Society of the Deaf kindly invites non-hearing masters of culture and arts and their fans, who are not neutral to the idea of integration of the deaf people into society, to their consolidation in the world and to development of their friendly relations.
At the address of the Organizing Committee of the 5th European Deaf Arts and Culture Festival were sent 18 letters of applications for participation in the Festival. Namely: |

The Council of Experts attentively analyzes these applications and all given video materials and plans to chose 5 theatrical collective groups for participation in the festival on June 10, 2008.
